Patricia Maxine Herron passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Patty was of the Methodist Faith and was saved by the Grace, Love and Glory of Jesus Christ. She was the first child of William and Beulah Roller and was born on March 18, 1956. Patty and her husband Lynn were married at a very early age. She was only 16 and he was 19. At their simple wedding ceremony, they gave the only seven dollars they had to the country preacher who married them. They always felt that because of this they had been blessed with more in life than they deserved. They started with nothing but never was there a time in their long marriage that God didn’t provide their needs. Patty was an outstanding mom, wife and home maker. Nobody ever put more effort into doing things right than Patty. She was not just a mother, she made a house a home. She was a perfectionist with everything she undertook. She was insistent and worked tirelessly to make sure the children took responsibility for their school work, work assignments at home and always encouraged them to be honest, upstanding people. She always instilled in them to have good character, morals and ethics. Before the onset of her illness sixteen months ago, she was a “Band Booster Mom” at Sullivan Central High School. She was a mentor and friend to all the young people who knew her. Many of them would confide in her about problems they were having at school or at home because they trusted her and that trust was never broken. She always did her very best to help them with good, sound advice. Patty worked tirelessly to make sure the events her and the other moms did for the Band Boosters raised as much money as possible for the band so they would have money for the things they needed for the program. Everyone at Sullivan Central High School had an unwavering respect for the work and time she took to help the program. Patty was passionate about what she did as a Band Booster Mom. Patty was an accomplished artist and a few of her oil paintings will be on display at her Celebration of Life. Whether it was oil painting, sculpting, calligraphy, drawing or water colors, it was obvious to everyone she loved her art. She would get lost in time working in her art studio and would many times virtually “wake up” after spending 8 to 10 hours at her easel and palette. She was born with artistic talents and loved all kinds of art. Patty was also active for the past several years with Kingsport Fun Fest. She and her granddaughters worked the events to help raise funds for the Sullivan Central High School Band. She was also on the Fun Fest Planning Committee and spent many hours helping to plan Kingsport Fun Fest events way in advance of it happening. One of the jobs she had for two years was managing the “store room” during Kingsport Fun Fest. Every tent, every ice chest, ever piece of equipment that was needed out in the field during Fun Fest was stored in the Kingsport Auditorium store room. It was a daunting job and many times she spent 16 hours a day making sure it ran smoothly and efficiently. To write an obituary that could fully encompass all of her skills and talents would be impossible. Suffice to say, she was a special lady who was loved by all who knew her and was a positive influence to so many people that no written obituary could capture all the good she did in the 62 short years she spent on this earth. Patty’s life was cut short by the ravages of metastatic breast cancer. A disease so incredibly devastating that it’s impossible to describe. From the day she was diagnosed, she faced this monster with all the positive attitude, courage and fight you would expect from someone the caliber of Patty Herron. She fought it to the end but in the end it won……kind of. She was received into Heaven by our Creator and was given a new body upon arrival. A body that will never feel pain or suffering. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and of that, I’m sure. Patty is survived by her husband of 45 years, Carson Lynn Herron and their two sons, Brian and Dustin. She has four grandchildren; Logan, Taylor, Seth and Kayla. Her grandchildren were the delights of her life. Patty is survived by four sisters; Teresa Archer, Janice Ensor, Tammie Vaughn and Shirley Zirkle. Patty has two deceased sisters; Debbie Roller and Erma Hill and one deceased brother; William Roller. Visitation will be held at the Oak Hill Funeral Home Chapel from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. After visitation, a Celebration of Life Service will be held in the chapel beginning at 6:30 pm. Patty cherished the life she was given and did not want to have a conventional funeral but, she did want everyone in attendance to celebrate her life and to realize that life is short and in order to get the most out of it you must throw yourself at it and put as much into it as you expect to get out of it. The family wants to give a special thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and Technicians at Oncology Hematology Center in Kingsport, Amedisys Home Hospice and special guest speakers at her Celebration of Life; Chris Smithson, Steve Coates, Mary Barnett, Patty Gardner and members of Patty’s family. As this obituary has indicated, Patty was very active with her granddaughters in the Sullivan Central High School Marching Band.
